The Plan

Hurricane wipes out the Cruise for 2005. -- 9/9/05

Our sympathies to our neighbors in the Mississippi / Louisiana area.

In the days that followed the hurricane, we gradually all could see that the cruise and Mini-Glassic Reunion were not going to happen this year.  Each day brought a more dismal picture of that area. A couple of the local guys with Glassics have not been heard from since the hurricane hit.  We wish them good luck and hope that they and their cars came out of this okay.

Because of a lack of time to plan, there is no alternative option for this fall, and we should turn our attention to next year. A few people that I have spoken to agree that it is time to search for a gathering somewhere ELSE. Two horrible years in a row is enough.

So far, discussion for next year suggests that having our reunion mated to a big car show is a good idea. We can show off our beauties to others, and we can look at other interesting cars at the same time. We also can meet among ourselves and compare notes.

Your comments and ideas are welcome. GlassicAnnex@aol.com

ALERT

4/25/05 -- email I sent to the people who had been booked at the President:

OK - our new hotel for the Cruise is the Isle of Capri. The rate is $89 per night with no penalty for weekend nights. I have reserved my room with the company suggested by the President Casino - no charge now, 72 hour cancellation policy.  I spoke to the young lady "Serena" -- don't know the spelling but pronounced SIR ee'nah.  She said that enough rooms for us would be available, but book them very soon.  I said that our group would use the group name GLASSIC CARS - so she will expect the calls - I hope.

She took my info and got my home phone # and said "We will get back to you with a confirmation number" When I asked WHEN? she said probably by noon.  She also said for you all to start now booking, and not wait for me to get a confirm #.  She said that other people kicked out of the President WERE contacting them.

Call GULF COAST RESERVATIONS 1-888-388-1006 -- The 4 night people are staying Wed, Oct 5,--- Thurs, Oct 6,--- Fri Oct 7,  --- Sat Oct 8 --- depart Sunday, Oct 9th.

Isle of Capri website is: Isle of Capri Casino - Biloxi, MS.

4/23/05

Today I got our "Dear John" letter from the President Casino. Our reservations have been cancelled since they sold the casino.

As of this moment (I am still in shock) I am going to explore other options. The reservation service mentioned in the letter from the President is a free service, and as of my call to them today, they have rooms in 4 hotels.  The cheapest is $89 per night, with others being cheap during the week, but $179 - 189 on the weekend.

I will compute the options, check a map and see what we may want to do.

UPDATE 4/23 -- 8pm.

With help, I tentatively decided on the Isle of Capri which the reservation service recommended by the President had quoted as $89. Since the service was closed, I called the hotel's 800 # and got different info including no rooms avail. on Fri and Sat. only suites at $179 - 199 per night.

Monday, I will call the service again, since they had said stuff about "blocking out rooms for the cruise" Once I am sure we can all get in whatever hotel, I will update this webpage. Meanwhile, here is the info for when it is time for you to make your reservation.

Gulf Coast Hotel Reservations 1-888-388-1006   Their office hours are 8am to 7pm Mon-Fri, 9am-3pm Saturday, closed Sunday. (they are a free service and have a 72 hour cancellation policy)

If we cannot get a satisfactory room setup, a choice still is to abandon the group effort thing and try again another year.  Check back here on Monday.

MY CLASSIC CAR TV SHOW.

Episode 10025 (Airing the week of August 25; February 12)
Cruisin' The Coast, How Rubber Ages on Your Car

Dennis Gage, the guy with the huge moustache, was at Cruisin' the Coast in 2004, in the rain with us all. To my knowledge, none of the Glassic people saw him, but he reported on the cruise in 2003, and the above info came from the myclassiccar website, suggests he will show a segment from 2004 also.  Mark you calendar to watch it in August.

For 2005, there is no separate Glassic Reunion planned. Instead, lets reunite at this cruise! We can do OUR thing, but have the added benefits of a huge show. It will cost $50 to enter the cruise, but there is loads to do for us and our families. Gambling (or just watching the gamblers), entertainment, 1000's of hot rods to see, etc. etc.

Any Glassic or Shay owners or others are invited to convoy along or join us if they wish.

Email me if you are thinking of going: GlassicAnnex@aol.com

Here is a MAP QUEST map of the area. In 2004 some of us stayed in Bay St. Louis, on the left edge of the map. By the time we heard about this HUGE event, all of the more central hotels were full. For 2005, we found that the President Hotel & Casino was both centrally located and reasonably priced.  Book now -- they WILL fill up, and you can cancel if your plans change. Don booked Wed. thru Sunday -- King Smoking (non smoking booked up already) at the rate of $59 on Wed, Thurs, and $119 on Fri, and Sat. nights.

This cruise is on the gulf of Mexico coast and is in the Biloxi - Gulfport area of Mississippi.

Here are links to the website for the cruise and for the hotel that we are staying at.

Don will take two days to meander up from the Tampa Bay area of Florida, stopping along the way in Marianna, FL along Rt. 10.  That info will be added when we book rooms along the way. Last year, our room at the Ramada Express was fine.
This is not OUR event, we are just attending and inviting anyone to join us.
